Playskill AGM 2020

The Playskill AGM took place on Wednesday 11 November on a dark and windy night. Luckily this was our first ever virtual AGM so we were all warm and ready at our computer screens crossing our fingers that the windy weather didn’t knock out the internet.

We were delighted to kick off the evening hearing from our local MP for Watford Dean Russell. Dean informed us of the support he has been giving during the lockdown and COVID outbreak and how he hopes to work together closely with us in the future. He kindly agreed to accept questions to his email address directly at dean.russell.mp@parliament.uk

After Dean’s wonderful opening, Chairman Stuart Soloway took us through a quick review of 2019, our financial position coming into 2020 and our future plans. A great reminder of all that we had achieved last year, that put us in a strong position to cope with what was about to be thrown at us.

We also heard from Andrea about 2020, and how Playskill has adapted to ensure we can continue to provide our services in these ever changing and incredibly challenging year. You can view Andrea’s presentation below. Highlights include our first virtual term where we delivered more than 200 hours of free therapeutic support and supported more than 50 families. She also explained our current hybrid model where we are seeing approximately 75% of our children virtually for Speech and Language and Occupational Therapy and 25% face to face for critical Physiotherapy intervention work.

We were extremely grateful to hear from four parents about how Playskill has helped their children and families and the positive impact this has had. It was incredibly moving to hear of the children’s achievements and the fun they have at our sessions.

Finally we were also delighted to present two awards on the night. The Gill Backhouse Fundraiser of the Year award went to William Rose for his fantastic efforts running between two trees during the first lockdown and raising more than £2000. There was also a special mention for all the children who took part in the Playskill Challenge and everyone who had done whacky fundraising of their own. Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year. We couldn’t do it without you.

The Cedric Levitt Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Sarah Stockley who volunteers at our Hemel groups. During an incredibly difficult year Sarah has gone above and beyond not only volunteering each week but also fundraising in memory of her daughter Emily. A special mention was also given to our wonderful media volunteers Dylan and Emeka who have helped enormously this year with all things media!

Thank you to everyone who came and bared with us as we got used to a virtual AGM. If you were unable to make the evening please do take some time to watch our parent speakers and flick through Andrea’s presentation. We can’t wait to see you next year, please save the date of Wednesday 17 November.
